Preserve before you replace

Modern windshield replacement is no longer just a glass decision.

A modern windshield can be a structural, optical and technology-bearing component of the vehicle. When original factory glass is damaged beyond repair, replacement may involve parts authorization, vehicle-specific procedures, camera or sensor transfer, calibration, validation, customer downtime and possible out-of-pocket costs. Impact Defense OEM Windshield Preservation™ is designed to help reduce exposure to ordinary road-debris damage before that replacement chain begins.

Original glass, OEM replacement glass and aftermarket glass are not the same term.

Original factory windshield

The windshield installed when the vehicle was assembled. Preserving it avoids removal of original bonded glass and, when damage is avoided, the replacement and recalibration process that may follow.

OEM replacement windshield

Replacement glass supplied or approved through the manufacturer’s parts channel. It is replacement glass, not the original factory-installed windshield.

Aftermarket replacement windshield

Replacement glass supplied outside the automaker’s branded parts channel. Products and applications vary.

The correct part and procedure depend on the vehicle, equipment, applicable law, policy terms and current manufacturer service information. Consumers should consult qualified professionals and their insurer before authorizing replacement work.

One break can create a chain of decisions.

  1. Windshield damage
  2. Repair-versus-replacement determination
  3. Claim and parts authorization
  4. Glass removal and replacement
  5. Camera or sensor transfer and required calibration
  6. Validation, documentation and return to service

If calibration or validation does not succeed, additional diagnosis, another glass authorization, repeat replacement, dealership or specialist involvement, more vehicle downtime or additional consumer or shop cost may follow.

No single party controls the entire outcome.

Vehicle owner

Chooses coverage, authorizes work and lives with the safety, downtime and ownership consequences.

Insurance company or claims administrator

Applies policy language, requirements, network rules and authorization standards. Coverage varies.

Glass or collision repair facility

Evaluates damage, follows applicable procedures, installs glass and may perform or coordinate calibration.

Calibration facility or dealership

Uses vehicle-specific information and equipment to perform or validate procedures.

Automaker

Defines vehicle specifications, service procedures and position statements.

Originating dealership or dealer group

Educates the buyer and can offer preservation before road debris exposure begins.

The industry is confronting a real alignment problem.

The best replacement event may be the one that never begins.

Impact Defense is installed before damage as a professionally applied exterior sacrificial layer engineered to help absorb and disperse energy from ordinary road debris while helping protect original glass from surface wear and environmental exposure.

Impact Defense does not make glass indestructible and does not guarantee prevention of chips, cracks, edge impacts, replacement, claims or calibration. Compatibility, installation coverage, results and performance vary.

Reactive replacement path

Damage → claim → authorization → replacement → calibration → validation and return to service

Proactive preservation path

Professional Impact Defense installation → sacrificial exterior exposure layer → original glass remains in place when damage is avoided → no replacement-related claim or recalibration event begins
